Wendy’s Opens in Alice, Creating Jobs and Local Economic Momentum
Wendy’s held a soft opening in Alice on December 31, 2025, marking the return of the national chain to Jim Wells County and adding a new option for residents who previously traveled to Corpus Christi. The restaurant’s arrival creates local jobs, keeps more consumer spending in town, and reinforces a recent trend of business growth in Alice.

Wendy’s opened its doors in Alice with a soft opening on December 31, 2025, at the intersection of South Reynolds and West Front Street, operating initially from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily. District Manager William Dye said the new location is another sign of steady community growth and that the company will consider 24 hour service and a formal grand opening in the near future. The restaurant has already created local positions and offers residents closer access to the chain’s food and coffee.
Local customers greeted the opening with enthusiasm. Glenda Garza and her husband were among the first patrons. “We heard about the opening of Wendy’s here in Alice. And we were excited because I’ve always wanted Wendy’s to come to Alice to boost the economy,” Garza said. “We need to have a comeback in our economy.” Dye, a native of Premont who serves as District Manager, said the arrival of Wendy’s fills a gap that previously sent residents to Corpus Christi for the brand. “Alice is a perfect community to bring in competitive restaurants,” he said. “The people of Alice are nice. The community continues to expand. It brings us opportunity for jobs especially for the county of Jim Wells,” Dye said. “Bringing Wendy’s closer to the surrounding towns of Jim Wells County, it gives us a different taste.”

The immediate economic implications for Alice are practical and measurable in local terms. New restaurant employment retains wages in town, boosts sales tax receipts, and can increase foot traffic for nearby retailers and service providers. For residents, the benefit is convenience and reduced travel time to access national chain offerings. For local leaders, the Wendy’s opening is another data point in a multi year uptick in commercial activity where national chains and small businesses have expanded alongside each other.
Policy and planning considerations follow the business arrival. City officials and county planners will weigh impacts on traffic and downtown access at the Reynolds and Front Street intersection if the restaurant shifts to 24 hour operations. Workforce development programs and local hiring initiatives can amplify economic gains by connecting residents to entry level and supervisory positions created by new food service operations.
Looking ahead, the soft opening positions Alice to capture more consumer spending and sustain recent momentum in business development. A planned grand opening and possible extended hours will determine how much additional economic activity the new Wendy’s generates for Jim Wells County in the coming months.
