Delivery trucks, commercial haulers, tour buses and other vehicles more than 30 feet long should avoid making a left turn at the roundabout near Ala Kinoiki Road, Po‘ipū Road and Pe‘e Road through May 26, 2026, as construction continues in the Po‘ipū corridor. The restriction is the kind that can quickly ripple through south shore traffic, altering business deliveries, visitor shuttles and other large-vehicle movements through one of Kaua‘i’s busiest stretches.

Kaua‘i County Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC said the temporary rule applies to oversized vehicles because of ongoing work at the intersection. The roundabout was converted in April 2026, with yield signs placed on all entrances while construction continued around the site. County officials have framed the change as part of a broader effort to keep the corridor moving safely even as work continues around it.

At the same time, the county lifted a separate restriction on Kōloa Road. Kōloa Bridge has had its load rating removed after repairs were completed, and all traffic is now permitted to travel over the bridge again. That clears one of the south shore’s recent bottlenecks after a 2025 bridge-work notice had outlined weekday lane closures from March 6 to Nov. 1, 2025 tied to the Kōloa Road and Kīpū Bridge project.

The roundabout sits inside the larger Po‘ipū Road Safety and Mobility Project, a corridor redesign that county materials say includes three new roundabouts, continuous bicycle lanes, new sidewalks, marked crosswalks, bus stops with shelters and turn-only lanes. County project documents say the work is meant to improve safety and mobility along Po‘ipū Road while linking Kōloa Elementary School, nearby housing, resorts, restaurants and other businesses.

Those same materials say the project was identified in the South Kaua‘i Community Plan and shaped through a community outreach process. County project-management pages direct the public to the Road Resurfacing and Bridge Status Map and the Public Works engineering office for updates and contact information, a reminder that the Po‘ipū roadwork picture is still changing street by street.
