Kauai High School's golf program opened the 2026 Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation season in commanding fashion on March 7, sweeping both the girls and boys team competitions at Wailua Golf Course with scores that left little doubt about which program arrived ready to compete.

The girls team carded a 349 to top Kapaa High School's 358 and Waimea High School's 395. Just nine strokes separated first and second place across 18 holes, a margin that reflects how tightly the three programs compete at Wailua. Sydney Ito led the Red Raiders, finishing at 93 and tying Kapaa's Juliette Rosales O'Shaughnessy for top girls individual honors. Kapaa's Mehana Guy filled in the No. 3 berth with a 107, while Waimea's Kayla Koshi ended with a 115, eight strokes back. Maddie Perreira of Kauai High rounded out the leaderboard with a 125. Coach Kimberlie Miyamoto's squad also included Aliyah Corpuz in the team lineup.

Despite the keen competition across 18 holes, the Kauai High boys won the team title with a total 328. Kapaa, led by Laymon, carded a team 350, followed by Waimea at 379 and Island School at 396. The Kauai boys roster included Caleb Ito, Shane Murphy, Renyn Lee, and Caleb Taba, coached by Paul Ito, Reynold Lee, and Steve Murphy.

Kauai Christian Academy and Island School both fielded players in the KIF competition, a golf parent noted, reflecting growing participation in the island's high school golf scene.

The next KIF round shifts to a Friday tee time, with the first group at Wailua Golf Course shooting from 11:30 a.m. The schedule change comes because the Hawaii Junior Golf Association is playing a 36-hole tournament at Wailua on Saturday and Sunday.
