Kekaha Thrifty Mini Mart Fire Causes $308,000 in Damages

On Sunday, November 30, Kaua‘i Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire at the Thrifty Mini Mart in Kekaha shortly after 7:45 p.m. Firefighters from the Waimea, Hanapēpē and Kalāheo stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau and the on duty Battalion Chief arrived on scene shortly after 7:50 p.m. and reported smoke coming from the structure roof. Crews launched an offensive fire attack, located the fire in the attic and extinguished the blaze, confining the damage to the attic area.

One person requested evaluation from AMR personnel for faintness but was not transported to a hospital. No injuries were reported. Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation into the cause, which remains undetermined. Firefighters cleared the site shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday, December 1.

The preliminary damage estimate stands at $308,000 in combined structure and content losses. That figure indicates significant repair and replacement costs for the property and suggests the store will face at least temporary operational disruptions while investigators complete their work and owners arrange recovery and restorations.
