Water repairs planned for upper Kuamoo Road Wednesday in Kapaa

Upper Kuamoo Road homes and businesses in Kapaa were without water Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the Department of Water repaired a tank in the upper road corridor, from Paako Street to Reservoir Dam Road, including branching roads.

The work was weather permitting. Customers near Reservoir Dam Road, Kimo Drive and second-floor units or structures were most likely to see intermittent outages during the repair window.

A booster pump was to operate in low-frequency mode to keep some pressure in the line. Two potable-water buffaloes were to be placed near 6805 Kimo Drive and 7401 Kuamoo Road as a backup source while the tank work was underway.

Before the interruption, residents were told to store enough water, notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors, make sure water heaters did not empty and avoid using appliances that require water.

The same upper Kuamoo Road stretch had already been tested earlier in July, when the Department of Water ordered a shutdown from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 9 in the area north of Paako Street to Reservoir Dam Road. After that test shutdown ended, water service was restored to full service, and another section of the tank remained under review for future repair work, with new notices to follow once a date was set.
