The former Big Lots at 101 E. Appleway Ave. is being gutted and rebuilt into Coeur d'Alene's first Crunch Fitness, a $5 million club that is also the first Crunch location anywhere in Idaho or the Inland Northwest.

Franchisee Fit Fusion, a multi-unit operator running 15 Crunch gyms across the country, announced the project April 6. The roughly 30,000-square-foot facility is slated to open this fall, with membership pre-sales beginning this summer. Fit Fusion has also signaled plans to open additional Crunch locations in the region later this year, making the Appleway build a potential anchor for a broader Idaho expansion.

The facility will debut Crunch's newest build format, called Crunch 3.0, which pairs updated aesthetics with a broader amenity mix than earlier club generations. The Appleway location will include a full cardio and weight floor, a boxing area, a functional fitness zone, and group fitness studios offering yoga and cycling classes. Post-workout amenities include Hydromassage, a sauna, and tanning beds.

Memberships will follow Crunch's three-tier structure: a single-club Base plan at less than $15 per month, and multi-club Peak and Peak Results tiers priced between $25 and $35 per month, with the upper tiers adding unlimited class access and extended guest privileges. Fit Fusion is also running a time-limited founding-member promotion: the first 500 people to sign up pay just $1 to join, receive their first month free, and get a limited-edition t-shirt and Crunch swag.

The Appleway address drops Crunch into direct competition with Coeur d'Alene's established fitness operators, among them Fuel Fitness, PEAK Health and Wellness Center, Anytime Fitness, and 360 Fitness North Idaho. At 30,000 square feet with a sub-$15 base price, the new club will rank among the largest dedicated fitness facilities in the market and will sharpen pricing pressure on comparable full-service gyms.

Remodeling crews are already inside the former retail shell. Permitting and tenant-improvement work are ongoing, and local hiring is expected to ramp up as Fit Fusion moves toward the summer pre-sale window.
