For Post Falls drivers, Discount Tire’s first local shop adds another place to compare prices, get tires mounted and handle a flat before a summer road trip turns into a roadside delay. The new store opened at 154 S. Metts Way, next to Wendy’s and near the I-90 Beck Road exit, putting four service bays in one of North Idaho’s busiest retail corridors.

The company has made Post Falls its eighth Idaho location, extending a footprint that now spans more than 1,200 stores nationwide. In a market where Kootenai County’s population reached 188,323 in 2024 and has grown 14% over the last five years, the timing fits a corridor that keeps pulling in more traffic, more rooftops and more consumer demand. Post Falls alone was estimated at 45,800 residents in 2024, up 18.6% from the April 1, 2020 census base.

Store manager Del Swan said he has spent 31 years with Discount Tire, starting in Spokane before moving on to Eugene and Seattle. He later ran the Spokane Valley store for 14 years before taking the Post Falls post. The new shop opened with tire and wheel sales, tire maintenance, and wiper inspection and replacement. Wheel-alignment service is expected later.

The building was designed with a large parking area to handle different vehicle types and sizes, a practical touch for a town that serves commuters, highway travelers and bigger household vehicles. Inside, the waiting room includes phone-charging ports and a television so customers can keep an eye on the work being done. The company lists the store as open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sunday. The phone number is 208-981-4430.

The new location lands in a county that keeps building fast. Kootenai County’s assessor reports more than 97,500 assessable parcels as of Jan. 1, 2025, with a combined full market value of $63.5 billion and net taxable value of $48.2 billion. Post Falls’ 2025 Transportation Master Plan says continued development will increase traffic across the transportation network and require improvements, and the city tracks major projects weekly. Put together, the numbers explain why a highway-adjacent tire shop near Beck Road makes business sense, and why Metts Way is looking more like a growing auto-services and retail cluster.
