Crime Scene Entertainment has added a new kind of night out in Post Falls: a walk-in detective mystery that lets guests solve a case in about half an hour, without dressing up or booking weeks ahead.

The company’s Case File: Open Detective’s Office opened at 3960 W. Fifth Ave., Suite B2, in Post Falls, giving Kootenai County a shorter, lower-commitment option for people who want an interactive outing but do not have time for a full theatrical event. The format is open Wednesday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and each case is designed to take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Admission is set at $15 per person or $45 for a group of four, a price point that places the attraction within reach for families, couples and small groups. Crime Scene Entertainment says the experience is recommended for ages 10 and older, though younger participants can join with an adult.

Instead of assigning guests a role in a staged murder mystery, the new setup puts them in a noir-inspired detective bullpen where they review case files, examine evidence and work through an interactive evidence locker at their own pace. The company says the format is meant for one to four players and is built for spontaneous visits, dates and casual outings, with online reservations available for those who want to plan ahead.

Owner Jeni Cook said the concept was designed for people who like mystery experiences but cannot always commit to a longer show. That shift matters in practical terms because the company’s full-length live-action mysteries run two to three hours and require advance tickets, making them a bigger time commitment for families juggling schedules or visitors looking for something to do between dinner and bedtime.

Crime Scene Entertainment says it offers more than 100 mystery themes across its broader business, along with private-party, fundraiser and corporate-event packages. A 2025 event listing for the company’s pirate-themed Murder Among the Mateys mystery showed the older model in action, with registration required and character assignments handed out at check-in.

The new walk-in format marks a clear departure from that reservation-based model. For Post Falls, it adds another hands-on entertainment option at a time when local businesses are leaning on novelty, participation and short-form experiences to win customers who want something more engaging than dinner and less demanding than a full evening out.
