Drivers on State Route 72 between Vicksburg and Parker now have a smoother, safer ride after ADOT finished an $8.8 million rehabilitation of the 10-mile stretch through Bouse in La Paz County. The work replaced worn pavement between mileposts 20 and 30, reducing rough spots, roadside hazards and the kind of wear that can turn a routine drive into a costly one.

ADOT said the corridor connects US 60 near Vicksburg with SR 95 south of Parker, making it a key east-west route for local traffic, freight and travelers crossing western Arizona. The project began in August 2025 and wrapped up in late April 2026, with ADOT issuing its completion notice on April 28.

Crews milled the existing pavement and replaced it with new asphalt. They also replaced guardrail and guardrail end terminals, installed new fence and pipe end sections, and added new ford walls to help control water flow and prevent erosion in washes. Signage and pavement markings were replaced as part of the job, giving the roadway a fresh finish after months of construction work.

ADOT’s project page said eastbound and westbound lane restrictions were in place during striping work, a last step that can still slow traffic even after the main rebuilding is complete. The agency also thanked nearby residents and the traveling public for their patience during construction.

The project was listed among ADOT’s Southwest District work in a 2024 state engineer’s report, but the public project materials released with the completion notice do not spell out the crash history, pavement-condition score or other ranking that put this stretch of SR 72 on the schedule. For Bouse, Vicksburg and Parker drivers who use the road every day, the immediate result is more visible than any planning document: a rebuilt surface, stronger roadside protection and fewer rough edges on a corridor that links two major highways in western La Paz County.
