La Paz County Health Dept, ADEQ Team Up for Solid Waste Inspection
ADEQ's Solid Waste Unit joined forces with the La Paz County Health Department and Republic Services to inspect solid waste operations and share best practices.

The La Paz County Health Department and Republic Services recently joined ADEQ's Solid Waste Unit for a collaborative inspection aimed at addressing concerns, exchanging experience, and reinforcing best practices in solid waste management across the county.
ADEQ announced the joint effort across its social media platforms, framing the coordination as essential to staying ahead of environmental problems. "Coordination like this helps us stay ahead of issues and keep the environment and communities protected," the agency stated in posts shared on Facebook and LinkedIn.
The inspection reflects a working relationship built on a formal foundation. Under Delegation Agreement EV24-0019, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has delegated authority for environmental programs to La Paz County Community Development, making the county a direct partner in the state's regulatory framework rather than simply a recipient of oversight.
That partnership carries practical weight for anyone hauling waste in La Paz County. Under A.A.C. R-18-13-1103(A), every person who owns or operates a vehicle used to store, collect, or dispose of sewage or human excreta removed from septic tanks, privies, sewage vaults, or chemical toilets must obtain a separate ADEQ license for each vehicle. Before that state license application can be submitted, a vehicle inspection by the local county health department is required, after which La Paz County issues a Septage Hauler Permit valid for the year.
Garbage haulers face similar annual requirements under A.A.C. R18-13-304. Garbage Hauler Permits issued through La Paz County are valid for the remaining calendar year following inspection and must be renewed before each new year to continue operating in the county. The permit fee is $150 per vehicle, payable to La Paz County Community Development.
Waste haulers or operators seeking inspections, permit applications, or general inquiries can reach La Paz County Community Development's Water and Wastewater Division at (928) 669-6138 or by email at comdev@lapaz.gov. Applications can also be submitted by mail to 1112 S. Joshua Ave., Suite 202, Parker, AZ 85344. The division asks that haulers call or email ahead to schedule their annual inspection.
