Salome edges Maryvale Prep 9-8 for fourth straight win in matchup
Salome’s 9-8 win over Maryvale Prep was its fourth straight in the matchup, nudging the Frogs to 5-10 and keeping a tight spring season alive.

Salome kept its hold on Maryvale Prep with a 9-8 win that gave the Frogs a fourth straight victory in the matchup and another one-run result to lean on as the spring race tightens. The game, played Friday, April 24, came down to Salome holding off the Matador in a finish that left the Frogs at 5-10 and Maryvale Prep at 3-10.
The margin mattered because this was not a one-off escape. MaxPreps lists Salome’s recent run against Maryvale Prep as 19-4 on March 27, 2026, 6-2 on March 28, 2025, and 24-2 on April 9, 2024, before the latest 9-8 result. That pattern says as much about the matchup as it does about one night, with Salome repeatedly finding the edge against a Maryvale Prep program that has had no answer in recent meetings.
For Salome, the bigger value is where this fits in the season. A 5-10 record still leaves the Frogs with work to do, but a string of close wins can change the feel of a team quickly. One-run games force late-inning poise, clean defense, and the ability to protect slim leads, and they can keep a roster engaged even when the overall record is not yet where it wants to be.
That matters in La Paz County, where Salome High School is a small-school operation with 120 students in the 2024-25 school year. The school is the only member of Bicentennial Union High School District No. 76, which serves students and families spread across Aguila, Bouse, Cibola, Ehrenberg, Salome, Quartzsite, Wenden, and Vicksburg, a footprint that covers roughly 3,400 square miles.

Salome’s baseball program also sits in 1A West for the 2025-26 alignment, underscoring how far the Frogs travel and how few margins separate rural teams from week to week. The Fighting Frog identity reaches back to local lore about Dick Wick Hall, and the school says the district became independent in 1976.
With spring games coming fast, the 9-8 win over Maryvale Prep gives Salome another marker of what the Frogs can do when the pressure rises. The series streak is now four straight, and the next stretch will show whether that edge becomes the foundation for a late-season climb.
