Oxford Eagle opens nominations for 2026 Top 20 Under 40

The Oxford Eagle has opened nominations for its 2026 Top 20 Under 40 recognition program, inviting residents, employers, coworkers, friends and neighbors to put forward younger people making a visible impact in Oxford and Lafayette County. The call, announced Aug. 4, again turns the list into a search for the people shaping the county’s next business owners, educators, health care workers, nonprofit leaders and civic volunteers.

The program has become a recurring marker of local leadership rather than a one-time honor. Oxford Magazine and the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce launched the 20 Under 40 recognition program in 2021, and the following year Oxford Magazine and the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals partnered on nominations for the same effort. By 2024, The Oxford Eagle was opening nominations on July 11, and the class was honored that fall at an awards reception on Oct. 2 at Paragon Ballroom in Oxford.

The paper’s coverage over the last two years shows how the list has grown into a steady part of the local calendar. On Aug. 10, 2025, The Oxford Eagle promoted voting for young leaders in the LOU community, and on Oct. 3, 2025, it published coverage of the 5th annual Top 20 Under 40 Awards. That history matters because it gives Oxford and Lafayette County a public way to track who is moving into leadership before those names become familiar across the rest of the region.

For a county shaped by the University of Mississippi, local schools, small businesses, medical offices and community organizations, the nomination process also doubles as a snapshot of where influence is forming. A list like this can elevate people whose work is easy to miss in daily life, from young business owners building in Oxford’s market to teachers, health care staff and nonprofit workers whose decisions affect residents long after the headlines move on. It also invites a closer look at which corners of the local economy are producing the most visible leaders and which emerging fields are starting to gain more public weight.

The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals of Oxford describes itself as a networking organization for active, ambitious young professionals in the Oxford and Lafayette County area, a natural feeder for a program built around rising leaders. The Oxford Eagle, which says it serves Oxford, Lafayette County and the University of Mississippi, is again using the nomination process to surface the people under 40 who are already helping define the county’s future.
