Large Cocaine Seizure on Interstate 25, Driver Arrested

County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling north on Interstate 25 on November 25, 2025, that resulted in a significant drug seizure and an arrest. Officers obtained consent to search the vehicle, then deployed K9 Jefe, which alerted to the presence of drugs. Following a full search, deputies recovered 26 pounds of cocaine from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Edgar Arana, was taken into custody and transported to the Las Animas County Detention Center. He was booked on charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, a class 1 drug felony, special offender importation, a class 1 drug felony, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 drug felony. Court proceedings and any additional investigative steps will be handled by county and state authorities.
