Great Divide Ski Area opens early, offers $20 tickets Sunday
Great Divide Ski Area in Marysville opened for the 2025 to 2026 season on Sunday, November 30, offering lift tickets at $20 for opening day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The resort cautioned that terrain was limited and not ideal for beginners, while noting usable snow and inviting local skiers to return to the slopes.

Great Divide Ski Area announced on November 29 that it would open the mountain to skiers the next day, marking an early season start for the Marysville resort. Opening day was held Sunday, November 30, with lifts operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a special $20 price for lift tickets. Staff posted an update on conditions and ticketing that celebrated the arrival of usable snow but warned that available terrain would be limited and not well suited for beginners.
The resort decision to open with limited runs creates a mixed set of outcomes for Lewis and Clark County. For frequent skiers and local families with experience, the opening provided early access to winter recreation and signaled the beginning of the busy winter season for nearby businesses. Ski shops, rental operators, restaurants and lodging in the county typically see their first sustained activity once the hill opens, and a promotional ticket price is likely to increase day to day visitation on short notice.

At the same time the limited terrain raises safety and service considerations. Novice skiers and lessons are likely to be constrained when only a portion of the hill is available. Local instructors, rental businesses and county emergency responders may face a concentrated demand for beginner services on alternative dates, or a shift in client mix toward more experienced skiers during early openings. The resort expressly advised caution for beginners when it posted its condition update.
From a broader economic perspective an early opening is an early indicator of winter revenue potential. Ski resorts derive a significant share of annual income from lift tickets, lessons and visitor spending in the winter months. A low price on opening day serves as a promotional stimulus to encourage turnout and build momentum for season pass sales and repeat visits. Continued snowfall and base build over the coming weeks will determine whether the initial limited offering expands into full slope availability.
Residents planning to visit should note the specific opening day hours and ticket price, and expect variable terrain conditions until the resort expands lift access as snow depth increases.
