Helena Paraeducator Charged With Five Felony Counts of Student Sexual Abuse
James Huber, a C.R. Anderson Middle School paraeducator, faces five felonies including three counts of rape of a child 12 or younger after officers were called to the school March 23.

James Michael Huber, a paraeducator at C.R. Anderson Middle School, was charged by the Lewis and Clark County Attorney's Office with five felony counts of sexual crimes against a student, court documents filed March 25, 2026, show. Officers were dispatched to C.R. Anderson Middle School on March 23 for a report of a sexual assault; Huber works at the school as a paraeducator.
Judge Mike Swingley set bond at $200,000 at Huber's initial appearance in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court, and Huber is scheduled to be arraigned in state district court on April 14, 2026.
The five counts Huber faces are: three felony counts of sexual intercourse without consent involving a victim 12 years or younger, one felony count of exposure observed by a person under the age of 16, and one felony charge of sexual abuse of children, according to the charging documents.
A forensic interview was conducted with the victim, who allegedly described multiple sexual encounters with Huber as early as January 2026. The alleged conduct spans roughly two months before law enforcement was called to the middle school.
The electronic evidence alleged in the charging documents is extensive. Investigators allege that in the images, there was a selfie of Huber, one of the text threads had more than 36,000 messages between the two, and a phone number believed to be associated with Huber would refer to the student as "baby." Officers discovered alleged text and Snapchat conversations between Huber and a Helena Public Schools student that contained sexually explicit images and "inappropriate messages."
Helena Public Schools said they are aware of the accusations against Huber and are cooperating fully with law enforcement. Huber has been placed on administrative leave.
Huber's arraignment in state district court is set for April 14. He is presumed innocent unless convicted. The victim's identity has not been released, and reporting on this case has been limited to protect the victim.
