Colorado Flatlanders Rod Run draws classic-car crowd to Pioneer Park

Classic cars and trucks filled Pioneer Park as the Colorado Flatlanders staged their 34th Annual Rod Run in Sterling from July 10-12, turning one of the city’s best-known parks into a rolling showroom. Registration ran from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the show-and-shine ran from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving owners and spectators most of the day to linger among the rows of polished chrome.

The setting helped make the event feel bigger than a car display. Pioneer Park’s open lawns gave people room to walk, talk and compare notes on paint, engines and restoration work, while the steady flow of visitors brought attention to nearby restaurants and shops. For Logan County, that mix of recreation and spending made the rod run part cultural gathering and part weekend boost for Sterling businesses.

The Colorado Flatlanders Car Club has deep roots in town. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce calls it “the club for all car lovers,” and the club also lists a scholarship program on its own site and on Northeastern Junior College’s scholarship page. That local reach helps explain why the rod run keeps drawing a crowd back to Pioneer Park.

The event has become a fixture, not a one-off attraction. A 2010 Sterling Journal-Advocate story said the annual Colorado Flatlanders Rod Run brings a wide range of makes, models and vintages to Pioneer Park each year. By 2019, it had reached its 28th annual show, and a 2022 article said Pioneer Park filled with a record number of cars. A 2025 listing identified the 33rd Annual Rod Run in the Park at Pioneer Park on July 12, 2025, showing how steadily the gathering has held its place in Sterling’s summer calendar.
