Eastern Wyoming College Golf Teams Sweep NJC Tournament Titles in Sterling
EWC's Lancers and Lady Lancers swept both titles at NJC's Sterling invitational, setting the wind-tested regional benchmark the Plainsmen now chase.

When Northeastern Junior College staged its spring invitational on April 2 and 3, Sterling's golf course and surrounding businesses absorbed the full footprint of a regional college tournament: visiting players, coaching staffs, and family supporters from multiple NJCAA Region 9 programs filling area hotel rooms and downtown restaurants across two days of competition. Eastern Wyoming College claimed both team titles, with the Lancers and Lady Lancers sweeping the field in conditions that tested every squad on the leaderboard.
Wind was the shaping force of the tournament. Gusts disrupted ball flight throughout the first round Thursday, prompting officials to adjust logistics and coaches to reset their scoring expectations. "I was proud of the way both teams played on Thursday," one EWC coach said after the event, pointing to ball control and mental focus as the factors that carried his teams through the punishing opening round. EWC held the individual leaderboard on both the men's and women's sides and protected those positions through the final scoring round.
For NJC's Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen, the event carried its own significance beyond the final standings. Sterling's courses are where NJC golfers practice and recruit, and running a well-attended invitational puts the college's facilities and organizational capacity in front of regional coaching staffs and prospects. EWC's sweep now sets the standard NJC's programs will need to chase over the remainder of the spring slate, and the margin is visible to anyone who followed the Sterling leaderboard.
The tournament also placed college-level competition directly in front of local prep golfers who follow NJCAA play in the region, giving high school athletes an informal look at junior college programs and the players currently leading them.
NJCAA Region 9 has additional spring tournaments and regional qualifying ahead. EWC's double title will factor into postseason seeding, and NJC's remaining home events will serve as a direct test of whether the Plainsmen have closed ground on the programs that walked out of Sterling with both trophies.
