Fleming Schedules WAPA Power Outage Notice, Easter Egg Hunt for Early April

Fleming's municipal government is warning residents that a rescheduled Western Area Power Administration maintenance outage will cut electricity to the town Monday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., an eight-hour window that gives households, agricultural operators, and small businesses fewer than 24 hours from Saturday to secure refrigerated goods, check generators, and reschedule any work that depends on power.

The Town of Fleming posted the advisory on its official website after the outage was moved to April 6. For a community of roughly 426 people spread across 313 acres of northeastern Colorado, the municipal Live Feed is effectively the closest thing to a broadcast alert system available, making that post the primary mechanism for reaching farmers running irrigation pumps, residents on medical equipment, and businesses with freezer inventory at risk.

WAPA, one of four federal power marketing administrations within the U.S. Department of Energy, markets wholesale hydropower generated at 57 federal hydroelectric dams operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, among others. It delivers that power through more than 17,000 circuit miles of high-voltage transmission infrastructure to more than 700 preference customers, including cooperatives, municipalities, and public utilities across 15 western states. Those customers collectively supply retail electricity to more than 40 million consumers. WAPA is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, and its Rocky Mountain Region, which covers Colorado and Wyoming, counts the Platte River Power Authority, Nebraska Public Power District, Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, and Wyoming Municipal Power Agency among its customers. A single scheduled maintenance window on WAPA's transmission network does not stay local; it ripples simultaneously to every utility and end-user tied to that corridor.

Earlier in the week, the town also publicized a separate community event: the 20-20 Club held its Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Fleming School Park on Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. The recurring event is organized by the local 20-20 Club and draws families from the town each spring.

Fleming, a statutory town in Logan County named for railroad official Henry Bascom Fleming, is part of the Sterling Micropolitan Statistical Area, with Sterling serving as the county seat and nearest commercial center. Its small size makes coordinated public notice, even through a website Live Feed, the kind of infrastructure that carries weight well beyond its modest technical footprint.
