NJC Baseball Sweeps Dawson Community College With Dominant Home Wins
NJC baseball outscored Dawson Community College 23–6 across two home games March 8–9, winning 11–5 and 12–1 in Sterling.
Northeastern Junior College baseball rolled through a two-game homestand in Sterling last weekend, beating Dawson Community College 11–5 on March 8 and 12–1 on March 9 to complete a dominant sweep.
The margins tell a straightforward story. NJC scored early and often in both contests, leaving little doubt by the final out of either game. The combined 23–6 run differential reflected the kind of home-field performance that gives a program momentum heading deeper into the spring season.
Dawson Community College, traveling to Sterling for the series, managed just six total runs across two days against the NJC squad. The March 9 result, a 12–1 final, was the sharper of the two performances, with NJC pulling away to turn the second game into a wire-to-wire statement.

The wins came for an institution with deep roots in this corner of Colorado. NJC was founded in 1941 as Sterling Community College, built and funded by the local community through a coalition of educational leaders and citizens who believed the region needed college-level education rooted in the values of rural Colorado. The name changed to Northeastern Junior College in 1950 to reflect a growing service area, and in 1997, funding shifted from a Logan County tax levy to the state, bringing NJC into the Colorado Community College System as one of its 13 member colleges.
That institutional identity, centered on service to rural Colorado and its communities, has remained constant even as the college has grown. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce recently recognized NJC as its Business of the Week, a designation that reflects how tightly the college remains woven into the fabric of Sterling and the surrounding region.
