Several Thefts Reported in Sterling, Items Recovered at Walmart
Sterling Police logged multiple theft and trespassing incidents on November 19 and 20, including the theft of a power tool, a push style wheelchair, and the removal of 16 store carts that were later recovered. The incidents together represent nearly seven thousand dollars in reported value, a reminder for residents and businesses to review security and support vulnerable neighbors.

Sterling Police Department records published through the South Platte Sentinel public records feed show a cluster of theft and trespassing reports occurring November 19 and 20, 2025. The most immediately resolved case involved Wal Mart at 1510 W. Main Street where police were called December 20 at 12 16 p.m. to investigate the reported removal of about 16 store carts. Officers later recovered the carts. The log lists an estimated value of four hundred dollars per cart, putting the retail loss associated with that incident at roughly six thousand four hundred dollars before recovery.
Earlier on November 19 at 2 59 p.m. officers responded to Ace Hardware at 200 Hays Avenue for a reported theft of a DeWalt 20V Max IMP driver kit valued at one hundred fifty nine dollars and ninety nine cents. That same morning at 9 12 a.m. police went to the 1100 block of Platte Street after a push style wheelchair valued at four hundred dollars was reported stolen. Late that day at 9 47 p.m. officers investigated a report of someone trespassing into a 1991 General Motors pickup truck on the 300 block of McKinley Street. The police log entries do not specify arrests.

Taken together the incidents represent reported losses and risks to personal safety and mobility equal to six thousand nine hundred fifty nine dollars and ninety nine cents. For a small county economy those figures matter. Retail shrinkage raises operating costs for local stores, which can be passed on in higher prices or reduced services. The theft of a wheelchair also has direct human consequences, potentially affecting a resident's independence and mobility until a replacement can be obtained.

The timing of the incidents falls in the late November shopping period when foot traffic and store activity increase. For Logan County residents and business owners the records underline the importance of visible store security measures, secure storage for personal mobility devices, and community vigilance. Sterling Police continue to compile and release public logs for transparency and investigative follow up. Residents with information related to these cases are encouraged to contact Sterling Police through normal channels.
