Sterling Fire Crews Extinguish Structure Fire on Hays Avenue

A structure fire in the 300 block of Hays Avenue pulled both the Sterling Fire and Police departments to the residential street on March 25, with crews containing and extinguishing the blaze before it could spread further along the block.

Firefighters did not clear the scene immediately after knocking down the fire. Crews stayed on through cleanup operations, and officials asked the public to avoid the Hays Avenue corridor while first responders remained active on site. Residents and through-traffic were directed away from the area for the duration.

The Sterling Fire Department, which covers more than 600 square miles across Logan County and serves a residential population of more than 23,000 with a combination of career and volunteer firefighters, confirmed the fire was out. No information on injuries was released.

The cause of the fire had not been publicly confirmed as of the response.
