Sterling Spring Cleanup Curbside Collection Begins Week of April 6
Sterling cleanup crews won't come back for late curbside items, and a refrigerator with Freon won't be touched at all. Special pickup outside the program costs $55 per truckload.

Sterling Public Works will not send cleanup crews back for a second pass. If bulky items are not at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the first day your sanitation route runs during Spring Cleanup week, they stay put until regular collection resumes; the special pickup alternative costs $55 per truckload.
The city's 2026 Spring Cleanup begins the week of April 6, covering all residential trash customers on the established route system. The program accepts any trash or rubbish legally disposable at the Logan County Landfill: furniture, household debris, and bulky items that exceed standard container capacity. Everything outside that definition gets left at the curb.
Appliances containing Freon top the list of commonly rejected items. Refrigerators, air conditioners, and freezers will not be collected unless they carry a "Freon Free" certification from an approved refrigerant reclamation center, such as a local appliance dealer. Placing an uncertified appliance at the curb does not produce a pickup. Tires, hazardous materials, and certain electronics are also excluded from the program and must be handled through separate disposal channels.

The compliance window is narrow: know your specific route day, have eligible items on the curb before 7:00 a.m. that morning, and confirm in advance whether specific items qualify. Residents uncertain about mattresses, construction debris, or any appliance can call Sterling Public Works at (970) 522-9700 before April 6 to avoid a missed window or an unnecessary trip to the Logan County Landfill.
The Spring Cleanup gives households without hauling access a free annual window to remove large items, which reduces pressure on illegal-dump spots around the city after winter. But the no-return rule is firm: sanitation crews finishing a route do not loop back, keeping the entire week's schedule on track. Anything placed after crews have passed will wait for the next regular pickup date.
