Crownpoint police seek missing Gallup teen Sequoia Cleveland, 17

Crownpoint District Navajo Police are asking the public to help find 17-year-old Sequoia Cleveland, who was reported missing and endangered after she was last seen May 3 in Gallup. Cleveland is 5 feet tall, weighs 120 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with credible information should contact the Navajo Nation Missing Persons tip line at 928-686-8563 or email tips.npd@navajo-nsn.gov. People can also reach Crownpoint District police dispatch at 505-786-2050 or 505-786-2051, and the district records section at 505-786-2056. The Crownpoint District office is at the Public Safety Building, 2925 Building A in Crownpoint.

The search falls under the Navajo Nation Police Department Missing Person Unit, which was founded in October 2021 and says it has handled more than 100 missing-person investigations since then. The unit says its mission is to investigate and resolve missing-person cases within the Navajo Nation, a responsibility that often requires quick coordination between tribal police, local agencies and federal investigators when the last known location is outside a single jurisdiction.

Gallup remains a painful landmark in Navajo missing-person history. The FBI says Anthonette Cayedito was last seen in Gallup in 1986, and the bureau later said it had verified more than 170 Native Americans as missing throughout New Mexico and the Navajo Nation. New Mexico State Police now use Turquoise Alerts for missing Native Americans who meet the criteria, with emergency notifications pushed through cell phones and media; the first Turquoise Alert in the state was issued in July 2025 for Eric Cleveland of Gallup. In cases like Sequoia Cleveland’s, speed and public attention can determine whether a lead reaches investigators in time.
