Gallup law enforcement issued a missing person alert on December 15 for 15 year old Leigha Johnson, who was last seen about 3:00 p.m. that day at Miyamura High School, 680 Boardman Drive. Johnson is described as approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall, 120 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. At the time she was reported missing she was wearing a blue Ralph Lauren jacket, light blue bell bottom pants, black and pink shoes and black glasses.
The Gallup Police Department identified several locations Johnson is known to frequent, including Ford Canyon Park, the local mall and the skate park area. Authorities posted the alert to solicit leads from the public and to focus searches on areas where she may be known to go. The case remains active as of December 18 and police have asked anyone with information to contact Metro Dispatch or the Gallup Police Department with tips.
For local residents the alert underscores concerns about teen safety and the importance of rapid reporting when someone does not return as expected. Parents and guardians at area schools are likely to want reassurance about protocols for monitoring students before and after school hours. Miyamura High School sits within the community that will be asked to remain vigilant for the clothing and physical description provided by investigators.
The involvement of familiar gathering places highlights the role of community members and business owners in aiding searches. Store clerks, park staff and patrons at the mall and skate park may hold pivotal information if Johnson passed through those sites after she was last seen. Police are relying on such community cooperation to develop leads.
McKinley County residents should treat this alert as a call to check known contacts, review any recent interactions with Johnson and contact authorities if they have relevant information. Continued transparency from law enforcement and timely community tips will be central to locating Johnson and resolving the case.
