Zuni Youth Enrichment Project Showcases Pueblo Weaving Apprentices March 27
Ten Zuni weaving apprentices will display and sell their work at Ho'n A:wan Park on March 27, capping a 10-week program run by the Zuni Youth Enrichment Project.

Ten young Zuni artists will display and sell Pueblo weaving they created during a 10-week apprenticeship when the Zuni Youth Enrichment Project opens its Pueblo Weaving Apprenticeship Program Showcase at Ho'n A:wan Park on March 27.
The public event, scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Zuni Pueblo park, gives the 10 Emerging Artist Apprentices their first opportunity to bring completed pieces directly to buyers and community members. The showcase doubles as a sale, meaning work produced across the full length of the apprenticeship will be available for purchase on-site.
ZYEP has built its Emerging Artist Apprenticeship model around the same 10-week structure across multiple traditional art forms. Last fall, the organization took the top four students from its 2025 pottery apprenticeship on a three-day capstone field trip to Phoenix, November 22 through 24, funded by the Bezos Family Foundation and First Nations Development Institute. That group, Joseph Lucio, 23; Liyah Quam, 21; Shylena Him, 18; and Kohl Watson, 18, visited the Heard Museum and the S'edav Va'aki Museum, exploring historic and contemporary Indigenous pottery, weaving and other traditional arts from tribes and pueblos across the Southwest.

ZYEP designed that Phoenix experience specifically for students who demonstrated outstanding dedication, skill development and leadership throughout their apprenticeship, and it included structured museum tours alongside immersive experiences centered on cultural continuity, peer connection and professional inspiration. ZYEP Arts Leader Kandis Quam and Physical Activity Coordinator Tyler Sice chaperoned the group, joined by art instructors Gaylan Westika, a traditional Zuni potter, and Jacob Frye, who hails from Tesuque Pueblo.
The March 27 weaving showcase involves a separate cohort of 10 apprentices whose medium is Pueblo weaving rather than pottery. ZYEP can be reached by mail at PO Box 447, Zuni, NM 87327.
