Miami Gardens couple accused of drugs, cash will stay jailed

A Miami Gardens judge ruled that Anthony Enrique Gordon and Danette Young will remain behind bars. The July 22 decision keeps the couple jailed as prosecutors press a case tied to a massive drug and cash seizure.

The case grew out of a fatal home-invasion and robbery attempt in Miami Gardens, where investigators later uncovered what the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office called a record-breaking drug seizure. The office said the State Attorney’s GVI Unit and Miami Gardens Police Department carried out the operation on June 10, and prosecutors described it as the largest drug seizure in Miami Gardens.

The haul was valued at more than $6 million, including about $1.4 million in cash and about $5 million in narcotics. Gordon, 50, faces charges tied to trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, meth and cannabis, along with dealing in stolen property, possession of drugs without a prescription, and possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.

Keeping the couple detained leaves the case in the pretrial phase, where judges decide whether defendants should stay jailed while the criminal process moves forward. In a case marked by a fatal violent incident, large amounts of cash, and accusations involving multiple drugs and a gun, the detention ruling adds another layer of accountability before any trial is set.

For Miami Gardens and the surrounding neighborhoods of Miami-Dade County, the scale of the seizure stands out because it points to a narcotics investigation that reached far beyond a simple street-level arrest. Prosecutors and police have already framed the case as a major disruption, and the court’s decision ensures Gordon and Young will continue facing the immediate consequences while the legal process advances.
