Crimestoppers seeks tips after overnight theft at Jacksonville shopping center
A shipment of merchandise was stolen overnight from Lincoln Square on West Morton, and Crimestoppers wants anyone who saw loading activity or unusual vehicles to come forward.

Morgan-Cass-Scott County Crimestoppers is asking for help identifying who stole a shipment of merchandise from a business at the Lincoln Square shopping center on West Morton in Jacksonville, a retail strip where late-night activity can go unnoticed for hours.
The theft happened sometime between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, leaving investigators with a narrow overnight window to work from. Crimestoppers said anyone who was in the area, saw a vehicle loading items, or noticed suspicious movement around the shopping center could have the key detail that helps solve the case.
Lincoln Square Shopping Center, listed at 901 W Morton Ave., sits on a corridor long described as the hub of retail and commercial activity in Jacksonville. Local business listings show the center houses a mix of stores, including J.C. Penney, Glik’s, Sears, Ashley’s HomeStore and Famous Footwear, making the theft relevant not just to one business but to a familiar shopping destination used by many Morgan County residents.
The report did not say what merchandise was taken or how much it was worth, and it did not identify any suspect. That makes the tip line especially important, since even a brief sighting of a truck, van or car near the lot could help investigators connect the theft to a person or vehicle.

Crime Stoppers of Morgan, Scott & Cass Counties said it has served local communities for more than three decades and operates an anonymous tip line. Callers are never asked for their name, only the information they have, and tips can be submitted by calling 217-243-7300 or through the organization’s online reporting options. The group also says cash rewards are available when a tip leads to an arrest.
Because the theft happened at one of Jacksonville’s busiest shopping centers, the case is likely to draw attention from nearby merchants as well as shoppers who use Morton Avenue for everyday errands. Investigators now need the kind of ordinary witness detail that can turn a quiet overnight theft into an arrest.
