Drive Through Holiday Light Display Opens at Jacksonville Nursing Home

Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab invited Morgan County residents to its annual drive through Christmas light display beginning Dec. 15, and the installation remains open through Dec. 30 at 1517 W. Walnut St. The display is free to drive through each evening from dusk to 10 p.m. and features thousands of lights and holiday decorations around the nursing home campus.

The event serves as one of several seasonal activities the facility hosts to engage residents, staff, and the wider community. The nursing home will welcome a special appearance by Santa Claus on Dec. 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the building parking lot, with hot chocolate and cookies provided at no cost. These festivities are part of a broader effort to maintain social connections for residents and their families during the holiday period. "We are highly motivated to help make the holidays joyful in our community, as many of our residents, staff, and their families live here," CEO Sawyer Zaerr said.

On a practical level, the drive through format allows visitors to experience the display from their vehicles, reducing the need for parking and enabling families to include older relatives who may have mobility limitations.
