Jacksonville police investigate attempted break-in, shed damage on East Oak
Police are probing a shed break-in attempt in the 100 block of East Oak, where a lock and entry door were damaged overnight. Officers are unsure if anything was taken.

Jacksonville police are investigating a criminal damage to property complaint in the 100 block of East Oak after someone damaged a lock and an entry door at an exterior shed at a residence. The damage happened sometime between 7 p.m. April 20 and 7:45 a.m. April 21, leaving neighbors on the city’s east side with another reminder that even small outbuildings can become targets.
Officers have not yet determined whether anything was taken from the shed. That makes the case part property damage, part possible attempted break-in, with detectives still trying to sort out whether the person who forced the lock also made off with anything from inside. For the homeowner, the impact is immediate either way: a damaged lock, a damaged door and the cost of repairs before the next nightfall.
Morgan-Cass-Scott Crimestoppers asked anyone with information to call 217-243-7300 or send a tip through its Facebook page or website. Tips are anonymous, and cash rewards are available when information leads to an arrest. The Jacksonville Police Department non-emergency number is 217-479-4630.
The East Oak complaint came as Crimestoppers continued a run of neighborhood-level reports across Jacksonville, including a theft on West Morton published April 24 and wanted-person notices on April 17 and April 27. Taken together, the recent reports show how quickly small incidents can stack up into a larger public-safety concern for Morgan County residents, especially when the location is specific enough to feel close to home.
Neighbors near East Oak can help by checking whether their own shed doors, padlocks and exterior entry points are secure, especially overnight. Simple steps like replacing worn locks, keeping sheds lit, and making sure doors close tightly can make a difference after a case like this, where someone appears to have targeted an outside storage space rather than the main house. Anyone who saw unusual activity in the 100 block of East Oak during the overnight hours between April 20 and April 21 can still provide details that may help close the gap in the investigation.
