Adam Hurley, a 12-year employee of the Jerseyville Public Library, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material after investigators searched his Jerseyville residence and found evidence of the material, according to a press release from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul dated March 13.

Hurley, 42, faces 10 counts in Jersey County Circuit Court, each a Class 2 felony carrying a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison. Sentences are ultimately determined by the court.

Investigators with the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and officers from the Jerseyville Police Department executed the search at Hurley's Jerseyville home. Authorities said evidence of child sexual abuse material was discovered during that search, and Hurley was taken into custody. He is being held at the Jersey County Jail. His next court date was scheduled for March 17.

Raoul's office described the case as part of ongoing collaborative work with federal and local law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois to apprehend offenders who download and trade child sexual abuse material online.

Library director Judy Pruitt told the Alton Telegraph that Hurley has worked at the Jerseyville Public Library as a library assistant since 2013. Library officials stated that his charges are not related to his job at the library and that none of the charges correlated to his work at the institution. Hurley was placed on unpaid leave and no longer has access to the facility. Officials also said they conducted a forensic audit of Hurley's workstation.

Investigators are asking anyone with additional information to contact Special Investigator Larry Rayburn at 217-843-0350.
