Local Clubs Stay Active Over Holidays, Boost Community Services
Several Morgan County civic groups held meetings and events in late December, keeping volunteer programs and fundraisers on track through the holiday period. Their work supports local services from food pantries to park maintenance, and signals steady civic engagement ahead of an active political season.

Community organizations across Morgan County continued regular operations in late December, holding meetings, approving repairs, and wrapping up fundraisers that sustain local social services and civic life.
The Jacksonville Rotary Club met at noon on Dec. 19 at Hamilton's, where members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang "America." Leaders thanked volunteers including greeters Stephanie Ballinger and Jim McClarey, 50 50 coordinators Jan Ryan and Dan Lepper, sergeants at arms Ginny Fanning and Shawn McCombs, Reflection leader Melissa Pantier, recognitions and tech lead Craig Albers, note taker Anne Jackson, song leader Jean Hembrough, food delivery Jim Hinchen, and Tobbe's transportation contact Kim Brogdon. Announcements covered PolioPlus jar collections, directory reviews, upcoming fundraisers, and meeting schedule changes, and the club presented a Vocational Student of the Month award while noting members with December birthdays.
The Gov. Duncan Association board met on Dec. 16 to update volunteer plans for "Evening with St. Nick" and "Duncan by Candlelight," and approved purchase of materials for flagpole repairs. The board also discussed renovation needs and planned future events including Presidents Day Trivia Night and arrangements for the annual meeting speaker.
Pilot Club of Jacksonville completed its Holiday Home Tour, reported as the club's largest fundraiser, generating support for Partners in Education, Camp Courage, the Personal Needs Pantry, the Festival of Trees, park beautification projects, and other community programs. The club is seeking homes for next year's tour and provided contact information for interested homeowners.

Political engagement is also active locally. The Morgan County Republican Club will host a meet and greet with Illinois gubernatorial candidate and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Amvets, 210 E. Court Drive in Jacksonville. The free event will offer pizza and appetizers.
These activities matter beyond social calendars. Fundraisers and volunteer maintenance reduce demand on local budgets and help sustain nonprofits that deliver services year round. Repairs approved by volunteer boards cut capital costs for small cultural sites and civic amenities. The timing of political events in early January further signals heightened local engagement as statewide campaigns move into the new year. For residents, continued club activity means both immediate services like food support and long term civic networks that influence local policy priorities and the allocation of volunteer time and financial resources.
