Morgan County cleanup event offers residents a place to haul junk
Morgan County residents could haul unwanted junk to GFL Environmental on State Highway 104, but only if they lived in the county, were customers in good standing and brought proof of address.

Morgan County residents got a practical outlet for spring cleanup when GFL Environmental hosted a countywide drop-off event at 2263 State Highway 104, just past the overpass between Franklin and Jacksonville. The site gave people a place to haul unwanted material from their properties before the heavier summer cleanup season begins.
The event was limited to Morgan County residents who were GFL customers in good standing. Organizers also asked participants to bring proof of address, and each customer was allowed only one trip. Those rules helped keep the site manageable while giving as many eligible households as possible a chance to clear out accumulated junk, broken household items, yard debris and other material that tends to build up after winter and early spring storms.

The location carried its own practical value. Sitting on the corridor between Franklin and Jacksonville, the site was accessible to residents from across the county rather than only to one town. That matters in Morgan County, where Jacksonville serves as the county seat and the population is spread across a relatively small but wide rural and small-town landscape. The county’s population was estimated at 32,515 on July 1, 2025, compared with 32,915 in the 2020 census, a reminder that one well-advertised cleanup day can draw broad interest in a county of this size.
The event also fit a recurring seasonal pattern. Jacksonville’s city listings show separate GFL cleanup service entries in 2026, and the city has previously promoted curbside cleanup weeks for residents within the corporate limits who have GFL accounts in good standing. In practical terms, that means the county’s cleanup calendar is not a one-time convenience but part of a regular cycle of disposal services that helps residents clear properties, keep neighborhoods looking better heading into summer and manage waste without waiting for a full household cleanout to pile up.
