Morgan County residents encouraged to nominate seniors for Illinois Hall of Fame
Illinois Department on Aging called for nominations to the 2026 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame; Morgan County residents are encouraged to nominate residents age 65 and older.

The Illinois Department on Aging announced it was accepting nominations for the 2026 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame, opening an annual opportunity to highlight older residents' contributions in arts, sports, entertainment, community service, education and labor. The program selects four inductees each year, and local leaders, family members and civic organizations in Morgan County have until June 2, 2026 to submit nominations.
Eligibility is straightforward: nominees must be at least 65 years old and either a current Illinois resident or someone who lived in Illinois for most of their life. Nominations may be submitted posthumously if the person was at least 65 and an Illinois resident at the time of death. The Department on Aging is providing nomination forms and additional instructions on its website.
For Morgan County, the Hall of Fame call is more than ceremonial recognition. Identifying and nominating long-serving volunteers, educators, artisans and labor leaders helps preserve community memory and draws public attention to the informal civic infrastructure that sustains small towns and neighborhoods. Recognition at the state level can increase visibility for local nonprofit efforts, attract volunteers, and strengthen intergenerational ties by showcasing role models who helped shape schools, churches, small businesses and neighborhood programs.
Local stakeholders who regularly interact with older residents - senior centers, historical societies, faith communities and neighborhood associations - are natural sources of potential nominees. Simple documentation of a nominee’s residency and civic record will be important when compiling forms. Because the Hall of Fame limits induction to four people statewide, Morgan County nominators should focus on candidates whose life stories and public service clearly demonstrate sustained impact in the community.

The nomination window runs through June 2, 2026. Residents who wish to submit should consult the Illinois Department on Aging website for the nomination form and instructions. Timely submissions will allow local organizations to coordinate endorsements, gather supporting materials and, where appropriate, seek municipal or county recognition ahead of the state selection process.
Highlighting the contributions of seniors is a practical way for Morgan County to celebrate civic commitment and bolster community cohesion. Nominators who take this step can ensure that long-term service and local leadership are recorded and considered at the state level, preserving those legacies for younger generations and informing future local policy on aging and volunteer engagement.
