Teen Fatally Shot in Chicago Drive-By, No Arrests Made Yet
A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times from a passing white car on Chicago's Coles Avenue Tuesday morning and died at the University of Chicago Hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was shot to death Tuesday morning on Chicago's South Side after a white car carrying several occupants pulled alongside him on Coles Avenue and opened fire, Chicago police said.
The shooting occurred around 9:13 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Coles Avenue, in the South Shore neighborhood. The teen was walking north when a white vehicle with three or four people inside approached. One of the individuals inside opened fire, striking the boy multiple times. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Police have not released the victim's identity. The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear. Area Two detectives are leading the investigation, and no arrests have been announced.
The South Shore neighborhood, anchored along Lake Michigan's southwestern shore, has seen repeated incidents of gun violence in recent years. The 7800 block of Coles Avenue sits just blocks from several Chicago public schools, and the mid-morning timing of the shooting placed it squarely in a stretch when students and residents fill sidewalks heading to class and work.
Chicago police offered no additional details about the occupants of the white vehicle or the direction it traveled after the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Area Two detectives or submit an anonymous tip through the city's CRED tip line.
