One woman killed in head-on crash on U.S. 95 in Nye County
One woman died and another driver was hurt in a head-on SUV crash on U.S. 95 near mile marker 105, about 45 miles north of Beatty.

A head-on crash on U.S. 95 near mile marker 105 in southern Nye County left one woman dead and another driver injured Sunday afternoon on a stretch of highway long marked by serious wrecks in the desert north of Beatty.
Nevada Highway Patrol said troopers responded at 4:41 p.m. to the collision, which involved two SUVs about 45 miles north of Beatty. One female driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other driver was taken to a hospital with injuries.
The wreck happened on a remote portion of U.S. 95 that carries local traffic, long-distance drivers and commercial travel through Nye County. The highway is one of the county’s key north-south corridors, linking small towns and work sites across a wide stretch of southern Nevada where passing lanes are limited and emergency response times can be long.
The location, near mile marker 105, is in an area that has seen other serious and fatal collisions in recent years. That history has kept safety on U.S. 95 in focus for drivers who rely on the route between Beatty and points farther south, especially when traffic, speed and limited visibility combine on rural desert roadway.
Nevada Highway Patrol identified the crash as a head-on collision but did not immediately release further details about what caused the vehicles to cross paths or what led to the impact. The injured driver’s condition was not immediately released beyond confirmation that the person was hospitalized.
For Nye County drivers, the crash is another reminder of how quickly conditions can turn dangerous on U.S. 95, where one serious collision can disrupt travel across a broad rural corridor and renew pressure for closer attention to highway safety, enforcement and roadway design.
