17-year-old dies after stabbing at Washington Square Park in Syracuse

A 17-year-old boy died after a stabbing at Washington Square Park on Thursday night, one of two fatal stabbings in Syracuse that day. Syracuse police said officers were sent to the park at about 8:25 p.m. to 8:27 p.m. and found the teen with several upper body stab wounds.

Emergency medical personnel with American Medical Response of CNY treated him at the scene and rushed him to Upstate University Hospital. He was later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. Syracuse police said the case remains under active investigation.

The killing has sharpened concern around youth safety in and near Washington Square Park, a public space in the Washington Square neighborhood that sits close to homes, sidewalks and neighborhood traffic.
