Orange County Chief Assistant DA Christopher Borek Honored with Morgenthau Award

Christopher P. Borek, chief assistant district attorney in Orange County, has been honored with the Robert M. Morgenthau Award, a statewide recognition for assistant prosecutors whose work exemplifies high standards of professionalism and integrity. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the honor in a county news release posted Feb. 2, 2026.

The Morgenthau Award, established in 2009, recognizes one assistant district attorney from each of four regions of the state whose professional accomplishments, honesty, integrity and commitment to justice exemplify Mr. Morgenthau’s high standards during his tenure as New York County District Attorney. The award was presented by the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York (DAASNY) at the association’s Winter Conference, according to the county announcement.

Borek brings more than thirty-six (36) years of public service to the role. His career includes prosecutorial roles in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the New York County District Attorney’s Office, as well as work with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the New York State Attorney General’s Office. The county release said Borek has “successfully prosecuted thousands of complex and high-profile criminal matters,” including “two homicides where no bodies were recovered,” has overseen “the prosecution of multiple defendant wiretap cases,” and handled “the most complicated white-collar cases that come to the Office.”

Since becoming chief assistant district attorney in January 2014, Borek has overseen the day-to-day operations of the district attorney’s office. He manages an office of approximately 100 staff, including attorneys, investigators, and professional staff. “In this role, he has set clear ethical expectations and enforced them fairly and consistently; implemented training and mentoring programs that stressed professionalism, objectivity, and prosecutorial discretion; developed policies and practices designed to enhance transparency, reduce bias, and promote accountability; and fostered a culture where staff feel supported in raising concerns and where decisions are evaluated not only for legal sufficiency but also for ethical soundness,” the announcement states.
