Tell City baseball erupts for season-high 14 runs in win over Pike Central

Tell City’s bats finally broke through for a season-high 14 runs Tuesday, and the 14-4 win over Pike Central gave the Marksmen their biggest offensive night of the spring while snapping a three-game losing streak.

The Marksmen had not reached that run total in any game this season, topping out at 13 on March 30, but they doubled down against the Chargers with a lineup that produced damage throughout the order. Conan Kellems helped drive the surge by going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple and one stolen base, while Cambron Froehlich finished 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and one stolen base. That kind of production gave Tell City the kind of cushion it has been looking for during an inconsistent stretch.

Tell City also got steady work on the mound. Drew Greulich pitched two innings and allowed no earned runs on one hit, and Jack Hammond struck out six over two innings while giving up one earned run and two unearned runs on three hits and one walk. Together, the effort held Pike Central to four runs and kept the Chargers from ever turning the game into a late threat.

The result carried added weight for Perry County baseball followers because it came against a familiar conference opponent and in a series that has tilted toward the road team. This was the fifth straight game in the Tell City-Pike Central series in which the away team won, a quirk that now adds another layer to the matchup between Tell City High School and Pike Central High School. The win moved the Marksmen to 6-10, while Pike Central fell to 1-16 and dropped into a four-game losing streak.

Tell City now turns quickly to its next test, a home matchup with Gibson Southern at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026. After a game in which the Marksmen posted their highest scoring output of the year, the bigger question is whether the 14-run performance becomes a turning point or remains a one-night spike.
