Tell City High School gave Perry County a front-row seat to one of the spring’s biggest girls track and field meets, hosting the Pocket Athletic Conference championships at 900 12th Street while Gibson Southern repeated as team champion with 115 points.

That mattered well beyond the scoreboard. With conference-level competition in Tell City, local students, parents and supporters were able to watch championship-caliber events without the extra drive to another county, and Tell City’s facility was put to use as a regional venue rather than just a home school site. For Perry County families, that meant easier access to the meet, less time on the road and a closer look at the standard the area’s athletes are chasing as the postseason gets underway.

The PAC Championships 2026 brought together a familiar league lineup that included North Posey, Pike Central, Princeton Community, South Spencer, Southridge, Tecumseh, Tell City and Washington. MileSplit Indiana listed Tell City High School as the host, and the school’s venue page shows this was not a one-time role. The site also hosted the PAC Championships in 2025, the PAC Girls Conference Meet in 2024 and the Boys PAC Championship in 2023, underscoring how Tell City has become a regular conference stop for track and field.

The timing fit squarely into the broader state tournament path. The Indiana High School Athletic Association’s girls track and field entry list deadline fell Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. CT, with sectionals scheduled for May 19. Conference meets like the PAC championship serve as one of the final measuring sticks before teams move into the sectional round, where every point and every place becomes more valuable.

For Tell City, hosting the meet also reinforced the school’s role as a civic asset in Perry County. The athletic complex drew coaches, officials, athletes and families from across the conference, placing the county seat in the middle of a significant spring event and giving local students a chance to see the level of competition that shapes the rest of the season. Gibson Southern left as the repeat champion, but Tell City’s bigger win was putting its track, campus and community at the center of the PAC championship stage.
