Tell City softball falls 21-2 to Tecumseh, McWhirter shines offensively
Bailey McWhirter went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI, but Tecumseh’s 21-2 rout left Tell City searching for a fast reset.

Bailey McWhirter gave Tell City its clearest offensive bright spot, but Tecumseh’s lineup buried the Marksmen in a 21-2 loss Monday at Tell City High School.
McWhirter finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs batted in, a line that stood out even in a game that got away early. A later MaxPreps game report identified McWhirter as Tell City’s RBI leader for the season, underscoring how central her production has been to the offense rather than treating Monday as a one-game spike.
The loss dropped Tell City to 5-8 and continued a difficult stretch for a team that had lost six of its previous seven games. MaxPreps also listed the Marksmen as allowing 11.3 runs per game this season, a statistic that helps explain why Tecumseh was able to take control so quickly. The Braves improved to 16-3 and stretched their road winning streak to 16 straight away victories dating back to last season.
Tecumseh has also built its record on margin as much as volume. The Braves entered the game having won nine matchups by more than eight runs this season, and Monday’s result fit that pattern. Tell City had little margin for error against an opponent that has been winning on the road and scoring in bunches, and the gap showed up across the box score.
The Marksmen did not have much time to absorb the defeat. Tell City was scheduled to face rival Forest Park at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, then return home for a busy stretch that included Hancock County on Thursday, May 7, Princeton on Saturday, May 9, and Springs Valley on Monday, May 11.

For Tell City, the challenge is clear: stop the bleeding fast enough to keep the schedule from compounding the damage. McWhirter’s day at the plate offered one reason for optimism inside a rough run, but the broader numbers show a team that must tighten up on both sides of the game if it wants the next few nights to look different from the last one.
