The cafeteria at Tell City High School filled with teammates, coaches, and family as Bailey McWhirter signed her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Indiana University Southeast, the New Albany-based school where she'll join the Grenadiers after her final season with the Marksmen.

"It's an honor. They've all been somewhere with me throughout the way and I'm just glad that everyone came together to give me my moment," McWhirter said at the signing.

The Tell City senior cited proximity and fit as the deciding factors in choosing IU Southeast over other options. "It wasn't too far from home and it had the major I wanted," McWhirter said. "Whenever I went on my visit, I really loved the campus and it just felt like a home away from home."

Tell City Athletic Director John Lyons praised McWhirter as a "fearless player and competitor" and called her "one that the Marksmen will miss after she graduates and heads to the next level."

The numbers back up that assessment. In 2024, McWhirter batted .446 with 33 hits, four home runs, and 18 RBI for Tell City. She followed that with a .389 average, four home runs, and 21 RBI in 2025, maintaining her power production while remaining one of the most consistent hitters on the Marksmen roster.

Before she puts on a Grenadiers uniform, McWhirter will suit up for Tell City one more time, playing out her senior season with the Marksmen this spring.
