Waupaca Foundry seeks workers for multiple Tell City manufacturing jobs

Waupaca Foundry is looking to add workers at its Tell City plant, including an entry-level Foundry Production job that starts newcomers in production or service departments and trains them for advancement. For Perry County job seekers, the openings point to one of the area's largest industrial employers still recruiting for hands-on work close to home.

The Foundry Production listing describes the role as an entry-level manufacturing position. New hires are assigned to a production or service department, where they receive training to build the skills, knowledge and work pace needed to move into department-specific classifications. That makes the opening relevant not only to experienced foundry workers, but also to residents trying to break into manufacturing for the first time.

The Tell City operation is a major local footprint. Waupaca Foundry says Plant 5 sits on 170 acres outside the city limits, covers 588,000 square feet and employs about 1,000 people. The facility was built in 1997 and expanded in 1999 and 2019, giving the plant a long-running presence in the county's manufacturing base. Waupaca Foundry also says the site uses robotics and automation and runs two cupola melt furnaces that produce several types and grades of iron.

The hiring push comes as Indiana's labor market remains relatively tight. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported the state's unemployment rate at 3.2% in April 2026, a level that can make it harder for employers to find people for skilled, physical jobs such as molding, melt operations, maintenance and quality work. Waupaca Foundry says it continues to look for workers across those areas companywide, along with core room, mill room, metallurgy and process engineering.

That broader recruiting effort matters in Tell City because Waupaca Foundry is not a small outpost. The company says it operates five iron foundries and machining locations in Waupaca and Marinette, Wisconsin, and in Tell City, and employs more than 4,000 people overall. More than half of its employees have been with the company for more than 10 years, and the company says it promotes from within, offers competitive pay and benefits, and puts safety first. With a 2020 U.S. Department of Energy Better Project award already tied to the Tell City plant, the openings suggest a facility that is still growing, still modernizing and still looking for the next wave of local workers.
