Hazard Firefighter Injured Battling Large Commercial Garage Fire in Perry County
A Jake's Branch firefighter was hospitalized after crews battled a large commercial garage fire Monday evening on Jones Lane in the Duane Mountain area of Perry County.

A firefighter from Jake's Branch Fire Department was taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Health after sustaining injuries Monday evening while battling a large commercial garage fire on Jones Lane in the Duane Mountain area of Perry County.
The Hazard Fire Department posted on Facebook around 7 p.m. on March 23 that crews had just cleared the scene of a large structure fire that ignited inside a garage on Jones Lane off Duane Mountain. When Hazard crews arrived to assist Jake's Branch with water and manpower, they encountered what officials described as "extensive fire conditions." The two departments joined forces to keep the blaze contained and prevent flames from spreading to surrounding structures.
Emergency personnel transported the injured Jake's Branch firefighter to Hazard Appalachian Regional Health. The firefighter's name and condition had not been released as of Tuesday.

Multiple fire departments from around the area were called to assist, along with Perry County Emergency Management and AEP, which also helped at the scene. The nature of AEP's role was not specified by officials.
The fire has since been extinguished, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is still underway. No cause has been announced and no property damage estimates have been released.
