Hazard library debuts Scribe and Screen Society, pairs Maze Runner

Teens filled a meeting room at the Perry County Public Library in Hazard on Feb. 17 for the launch of Scribe & Screen Society, a new monthly book-and-movie program aimed at ages 13–19 that paired the young-adult novel The Maze Runner with its film adaptation. The program marked the library’s mid-February expansion of youth programming.

The library organized Scribe & Screen Society to run monthly for Perry County teens, with sessions combining a selected young-adult title and the corresponding movie. The February session specifically centered on The Maze Runner, giving Hazard-area teens a consecutive experience of the book and the film in one evening.

Library staff framed the program as part of the library’s expanded youth offerings in mid-February; the Perry County Public Library in Hazard is now listing Scribe & Screen Society among its ongoing teen activities. The set age range for the program is 13–19, reflecting the library’s focus on middle- and high-school students in the county.

By pairing the novel The Maze Runner with the film adaptation in a single monthly meeting, the library created a format intended to engage readers and viewers together. The February 17 session used that format to present both the book’s dystopian narrative and the cinematic interpretation back-to-back for registered attendees from Hazard and surrounding parts of Perry County.
