College Park Declares March 2026 Diversity Awareness Month, Urges Community Celebration
College Park's mayor and city council proclaimed March 2026 Diversity Awareness Month, calling on residents to honor diversity "regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, ability, or background."

The Mayor and Council of the City of College Park signed a proclamation on March 3 declaring the entire month of March 2026 Diversity Awareness Month, with the city posting the document publicly on its website three days later.
The proclamation, adopted by the full mayor and city council, calls on College Park residents to "honor, celebrate, and promote the diversity that makes our community stronger." Its foundational premise is direct: "our community thrives when all individuals — regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, ability, or background, are respected, valued, and included."
The document frames the observance in practical as well as civic terms. Diversity Awareness Month, the proclamation states, "provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich mosaic of cultures, perspectives, and experiences that strengthen our city and foster innovation, understanding, and collaboration." A separate clause argues that "promoting awareness, equity, and inclusion helps break down barriers, reduce bias, and ensure that every resident can fully participate in community life." The proclamation concludes its rationale by noting that embracing diversity "enriches our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods, and strengthens the social fabric of College Park."

The Diversity Awareness Month proclamation was one of several formal declarations the city issued in early March. The city's website also posted proclamations for Women's History Month, Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day, all on March 6.
With roughly two weeks remaining in March, the proclamation's call to "honor, celebrate, and promote" diversity gives College Park residents the rest of the month to act on it.
