A city-owned parcel at 5021 Lakeland Road could soon be sold, with the Mayor and Council of College Park set to hold a public hearing Tuesday night on Ordinance 26-O-02, which authorizes the sale of the property on the grounds that it is "no longer needed for a public purpose."

The hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the 2nd Floor Council Chambers at City Hall, 7401 Baltimore Avenue. The city posted the notice one week ago, on March 17, giving the public a narrow window to weigh in before the session.

Neither the ordinance text nor the accompanying notice identifies a prospective buyer, discloses a sale price, or explains the history of how the property was used before the city determined it was surplus. Those details may appear in the staff report referenced in the city's notice, which is available through a link on the College Park website at collegeparkmd.gov.

Residents can attend in person or join virtually through the Zoom platform. The meeting link and dial-in phone number are posted on the Mayor and Council Meeting page of the city's website. The notice states that "all interested parties will have the opportunity to be heard."

Those unable to attend can still get their voices into the official record by submitting written comments to cpmc@collegeparkmd.gov before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the day of the hearing. To be accepted into the record, comments must include the specific topic addressed and the full name and address of the person submitting them.

Copies of Ordinance 26-O-02 are available from the City Clerk's Office at 7401 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 201, by calling 240-487-3501, or by downloading the document from collegeparkmd.gov. Residents requiring accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the City Clerk's Office directly and describe what assistance is needed.

It remains unclear whether the Council will vote on the ordinance at Tuesday's hearing or schedule a separate action at a later meeting.
