Fatal crash blocks MD-210 southbound at Beltway in Prince George's; two hospitalized

Maryland State Police say a single-vehicle crash shortly after 5:15 a.m. on the Capital Beltway near Route 210 overturned a Toyota RAV4; a woman was pronounced deceased at the scene and two other occupants were transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center by ambulance. MATOC issued a traffic update at 12:25pm reporting blockages on MD-210 as investigators worked the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Toyota RAV4 was traveling on the inner loop when for unknown reasons it lost control, entered the center median and collided with a metal guardrail, and the impact caused the vehicle to overturn, Maryland State Police say. Troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to the crash area shortly after 5:15 a.m., according to state police notifications.

MATOC’s 12:25pm advisory said, "All southbound lanes on MD-210 at I-95/495 in Prince George's County are blocked due to an accident investigation. Motorists advised to seek alternate routes." News sources report the outer loop of the Capital Beltway was shut down for the crash investigation for approximately two and a half hours, and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to assist with road closures.

Investigators believe impairment may be a contributing factor in the crash, and the Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation. State police have not released whether any tests or arrests have been made; the agency has characterized the probe as active and ongoing.

The Maryland State Police news release titled "Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Prince George’s County" states, "The identity of the deceased is pending next of kin notification. She was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical services personnel." The release confirms two other occupants were transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center by ambulance; no condition updates for those patients have been released.
