Kendrick Lamont Savoy, 44, of Lothian, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Maryland State Police and Prince George's County officers linked him to three separate shootings on county highways that began at 10:35 p.m. Monday and stretched into the early morning hours, injuring one driver and sending a family of three scrambling for safety on a Beltway on-ramp.

The first shot was fired at Maryland Route 5 at Allentown Road in Camp Springs, where a motorist called police after their vehicle was struck by gunfire. Twelve minutes later, at 10:47 p.m., a mother, father, and young child traveling north on Route 5 took the exit ramp toward I-495 North when an armed man stepped out of a car parked on the right shoulder and fired multiple rounds at their vehicle. The car was struck, but no one inside was hurt.

The final incident came nearly three hours after the first. Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-495/I-95 at Ardwick Ardmore Road, a driver was shot through his car and drove himself to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not specified by authorities.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, Highway Gun Crimes Initiative, and Criminal Enforcement Division, working alongside Prince George's County Police, identified Savoy as the suspect and executed a search warrant during a traffic stop at approximately 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, roughly 16 hours after the first shots were fired. Two handguns were recovered from the vehicle during that stop.

"This arrest of this suspect occurred 16 hours, roughly 16 hours after those three incidents," a Maryland State Police official said at a press conference held at the State Police barrack in College Park. "That's great work, great diligent effort by our partners."

The official added: "Due to the tireless efforts of our investigators assigned to the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, Highway Gun Crimes Initiative, and Criminal Enforcement Division, we were able to identify and eventually locate the suspect."

Savoy faces five counts of attempted murder along with additional charges and is being held without bond. Police described the vehicle connected to the shootings as a red or burgundy Dodge Challenger or Charger; the suspect was wearing a dark sweatshirt and light-colored pants at the time of the incidents.

This is not Savoy's first encounter with Prince George's County law enforcement. He was arrested in 2015 following an armed carjacking in Greenbelt and subsequently served time in the Maryland State penitentiary system, according to online records cited by 7News.

MSP Forensic Sciences Division crime scene technicians processed all three shooting locations for evidence. After the incidents Monday night, state police issued alerts to surrounding jurisdictions and deployed additional troopers to the county to bolster highway patrols. No fatalities were reported across any of the three incidents, and no motive has been established.
