On December 11, 2025 the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment unveiled a Community Resilience Hub Grant Program, administered in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The county made a total of $217,000 available in this funding round, with awards of up to $50,000 and most grants expected to range between $20,000 and $30,000.

The program targets neighborhood serving locations that can operate as resilience hubs during extreme weather and utility outages. Eligible applicants include nonprofit community centers, faith institutions, community associations, municipalities, watershed groups and colleges and universities. Approved activities cover a wide range of preparedness work, including building upgrades, emergency power systems, communications equipment, landscape improvements, resilience programming and operational costs that enable facilities to serve residents during heat waves, flooding events and prolonged power interruptions.

Applications must be submitted through the Chesapeake Bay Trust grant portal. The county has listed upcoming deadlines for additional funding rounds on December 22, 2025 at 4:00 PM and March 19, 2026 at 4:00 PM. The county release also includes a link to full program guidance and contact information for the County communications officer for organizations seeking further details. For Prince George’s County residents the program aims to expand the number of places that can provide refuge, cooling, emergency power and essential communications when storms, heat waves or grid failures strike. Strengthening community centers and local institutions can shorten response times, reduce risk for seniors and medically vulnerable residents and preserve continuity of services for neighborhoods that historically face greater climate impacts.

The grant program places the county among jurisdictions emphasizing local resilience as climate risks intensify. Organizations interested in applying should review the grant guidance and submit proposals through the Chesapeake Bay Trust grant portal ahead of the posted deadlines.
