Most Prince George’s County government offices closed for Presidents’ Day, the county announced in a Feb. 11 posting, with public safety agencies remaining on duty and several resident-facing services altered for Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. The county’s Department of the Environment told residents, “County government offices, with the exception of public safety agencies, will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday.”

Trash and recycling schedules were the clearest service to remain largely uninterrupted. The Department of the Environment said, “Curbside collection of yard trim, food scraps, trash, and recycling will continue on the regular schedule for residents receiving County-provided services. There are no changes to County-provided curbside collection services due to the holiday.” Patch’s Bowie coverage confirmed regular trash service but noted that bulky trash collection would be postponed and that both the electronics recycling acceptance site and the household hazardous waste acceptance site were closed for the holiday.

Transit adjustments hit some riders on specific routes. Patch reported that Prince George’s County TheBus “will run its regular weekday schedule except Route 51 service to the Equestrian Center/Courthouse. Regular operations of Route 51 will resume Tuesday.” Patch also reported that the county’s Call-A-Bus service, including the PGC Link and the Orange Circulator, “will not operate Monday. Regular operations of the Call‑A‑Bus services and PGC Link will resume Tuesday.” These route-level exceptions mean riders who rely on the Equestrian Center/Courthouse connection or paratransit circulators needed alternate plans for Feb. 16.

Some community facilities stayed open while schools and libraries closed. Patch wrote that “The Robert J. DiPietro Community Center and the Laurel Armory will be open during their regular hours of operation Monday,” even as “Prince George's County Public Schools offices and buildings will be closed Monday” and “The Prince George's County Memorial Library System also will be closed Monday.”

Other county functions paused for the holiday. Patch reported that “PGC311 will be closed Monday and will return to regular operations Tuesday.” While the 311 phone line was offline, Patch advised that residents could still submit service and issue requests through the county’s online 311 portal. The county also advised residents with waste-schedule questions to contact the PGC Office of Community Relations.

A national calendar entry conflicted with the county’s schedule. NationalToday carried the line, “Presidents Day on Monday, February 17, 2026 is a federal holiday…,” but county postings and local reporting identify the observed date in Prince George’s County, Maryland as Monday, February 16, 2026; county materials are the authoritative source for local operations. NationalToday and local summaries both noted broader closures across the federal and financial sector for the holiday, including banks and the U.S. Postal Service, while most retail stores and restaurants generally remained open.
